Rashiyah Elanga
Another Dream Under the Troposphere, 2023
Single channel video, 18 min
Rashiyah Elanga (*1997, France) lives and works in Paris, France.
They previously attended the National Fine Art School of Lyon and, in 2020, they graduated from Hochschule für Bildende Künste Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main with honours of the jury.
Through poetic writing, a scientific and mythological research, Elanga developed a world-building practice.
Using intense colours, they mix moving images, 3d animation, electronic music with installation and performance. Rashiyah works in a compulsive, intuitive way and in autarchy. Each new work is a new universe with its own plastic language and functioning.
Like dreams, their worlds are simultaneously self-sufficient and dialogical. Science and myths, internet and gen z subcultures, their teenage rituals, the cultural heritage of their Congolese family, all of this coexist in Elanga's sparkling, trans-temporal multiverse.
Their work has been exhibited in several occasions, including: Basel Social Club (2023) curated by Mohamed Almusibli, Frankfurt Kunstverehein (Frankfurt, 2023), Mine is a Warm Hole at Afterhours.zone (Paris, 2022), The Obzerver Lee Scratch Perry at Macro (Rome, 2022), Pray 4 Homes at Cherish (Geneva, 2021).
